This After
school program is designed to serve ambulatory school age children (4 to 18) with Autism, Autistic Spectrum Disorder
(ASD), and behavioral issues, who need assistance in developing social skills.
The most
noticeable symptom of Autism is the social disconnect. We at IDPAC, address this issue by including the children
in many social, academic and physical activities. Using the buddy system, which will be
discussed in more details further in this website, the children will interact with volunteers in the same age group, in play,
social and academic activities.
OBJECTIVE Teach children with ASD how to become active and successful members of peer groups and communities by providing quality
after-school and summer activities that would address social and academic skills and, recreational and life
skills.
Develop
broader areas of interest in children with ASD so that these children will gain a repertoire
of age appropriate activities to choose from rather than solitary, repetitive activities.
Facilitate
the growth of social-pragmatic and interaction skills by introducing children with ASD to an inclusion
program (buddy system) in environments that lead to the natural formation of peer relationships. Promote successful
inclusion of children with ASD in community settings, activities, and events.
It
is our goal and dream as parents, to spend the most quality amount of time with our children. Most of us working parents cannot
do that. A huge conflict is created when we must make a choice. IDPAC provides the home setting which our children love, and
a structured intervention program which our children need. Quality time at its best.
As
you go through these web site pages, you will find more information related to IDPAC services, as well as general community information.
